Full-length curtain airbags help protect occupants in all three rows. All-disc antilock brakes incorporate electronic brake-force distribution and Brake Assist, which can help in emergency stops. Electronic Stability Control and traction control are standard, along with a tire-pressure monitor. Power-adjustable pedals are optional.
Newly available hill-assist control should help the Borrego start off on steep inclines without "fishtailing," or stop on an upgrade without sliding backward. Downhill-assist control, also new for Kia, is intended to keep the Borrego straight and steady while easing down steep grades, and help keep the wheels from locking. Optional 18-inch alloy wheels claim to increase Borrego's off-road capabilities.
Kia-First Entertainment Features
Kia's first DVD navigation system is available. This is also the first Kia to offer Sirius satellite radio. A backup warning system with a rearview camera display is available, too. USB/iPod capabilities are standard in the 600-watt Infinity audio system, which includes a six-CD changer.
Pricing has not yet been established, but like all Kia products, the Borrego is sure to be "affordable," priced significantly below the competition. Kia includes a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, atop 5-year/60,000-mile basic coverage. Sales begin in summer 2008.
